J Sutton Traditional Oar & Scull Makers

In 1971, Jerry Sutton embarked on a mission to manufacture high-quality, exquisitely crafted wooden oars and sculls for budding rowers. His company soon developed enviable notoriety for excellence in the industry and, as a result, have been producing rowing aids for teams on an international level throughout the last five decades. Today we manufacture a broad selection of rowing blades, gig oars, poles, paddles, and carbon sculls to order, as well as repairing and restoring damaged rowing aids, using traditional methods true to our heritage and origins. So, for expert services, please get in touch today to speak to our team.

Our Accolades

Our various accolades include early World Championship and Olympic bronze, silver and gold medals, won using our products. Henley Royal Regatta has also seen several wins, at all levels, and in 1985 Steve Redgrave won his second Diamond Sculls rowing for Marlow RC, using none other than J Sutton oars. We are proud to have been actively involved in so many remarkable sporting successes and we continue to manufacture quality products for teams across the country.

Our Commissions

We have been commissioned to produce oars for a number of prestigious crews over the years. Both Oxford and Cambridge have used Sutton products over our fifty years of manufacturing. Additionally, we have had the honour of crafting on behalf of the Britannia Naval College, gig clubs across the country, and the Dartmouth Royal Regatta among many others. We have also had the privilege of working with known brands, Ralph Lauren, Crew Clothing, and Royal Barge Gloriana.

A Family-Run Company

Upon Jerry Sutton’s retirement, Mark Stanley took up the mantle and, with support from his son Jonny, continues to ensure Sutton’s recognised high standards are upheld. All of which would not be possible without master craftsman Pete Martin, who is instrumental in carrying out the quality workmanship upon which our family-run company is built.
